Dinka Statuary: An Eclectic Art Style?

More than twenty-five years ago, a very small group of less than a dozen statues attributed to the Dinka appeared on the art market. This Dinka style was unknown and certainly did not fit into the classical tastes of the times. These unusual works of art attracted the eye of David Henrion, a Belgian artist whose father was a renowned sculptor who also built a small but distinctive African art collection.

Il y a plus de vingt-cinq ans, est apparu sur le marché de l’art un ensemble d’une petite douzaine de statues attribuées aux Dinka. Le style Dinka était alors inconnu et ne correspondait en rien au goût classique de l’époque. Ces œuvres inhabituelles attirèrent l’attention de David Henrion, un artiste belge dont le père était un sculpteur de renom qui avait constitué une petite collection originale d’art africain.
