TEFAF Maastricht 2016: Seated baule collection

During TEFAF Maastricht (11-20 March 2016), tribal art specialist Bernard de Grunne (stand 122) presents 'Seated Baule figure as Thrones of the Spirits', a rare collection of 18 seated figures from the Baule tribe in Central Ivory Coast. It took about 4 years to gather the statues, but also to research why carving seated figures is so unusual. Through his research, De Grunne identified seven Baule "Masters" and their entourage.
